Abstract
東方文化研究所(現在の京都大学人文科学研究所附属東アジア人文情報学研究センター)は, 昭和13年(1938)から昭和20年(1945)にかけて, 山西省大同の雲岡石窟の調査をおこなっており, その最初の年の4月〜6月に撮影された16mmフィルム(モノクロ・サイレント・35分)である. 撮影者は水野清一. 撮影場所は, 北京〜張家口〜天鎮〜大同の鉄道風景、大同の下華厳寺・上華厳寺・市街地・城壁南門・南善化寺, 大同郊外の観音閣・雲岡寺, そして, 雲岡石窟およびその周辺の映像が, 作品の後半を占める. 石窟調査の金字塔ともいうべき「雲岡石窟」調査の最初期を伝える映像であり, また, 関東軍と晋北政府による北支施策の一端を示す貴重な史料でもある. Documentary films about a survey trip to Beijing, Datong (Shanxi), and Yungang Grottoes, etc. by Toho Bunka Kenkyujo (Oriental Culture Research Institute; predecessor of Institute for Research in Humanities, Kyoto University), in April-June 1938.
