On June 11, 1940, materials that were part of Kyoto Imperial University's research results were exhibited at the Kyoto Imperial Palace and viewed by Emperor Showa. The final section of the exhibit featured materials from the Experimental Forest of the Faculty of Agriculture.
The materials exhibited include a photo album bearing the inscription, “Granted by the Emperor; Cinchona Tree Planting: From Seeding to Bark Stripping,” which is part of the “Kyoto University Forests Collection, 1928-1986.” The photographs depict the cultivation of the cinchona tree, which is the source of quinine, a drug used to treat malaria.
