多くの複製を生んだとされる関東大震災映画フィルムの中で本資料映像は鮮明さで群を抜く. 缶表ラベルに「大阪毎日新聞社」の印刷・押印, また冒頭のタイトルコマには「贈　京都帝国大学　大阪毎日新聞社」とあることから, 製作者・大毎から直接贈られたことが窺える. 中身は震災直後の都心の様子が収められている. 炎と煙に巻かれていく家屋, 広場に集まりひしめき合う群衆, 荷物を運び出し避難する人々とその頭上に舞う火の粉まで活写されている. 看板の文字や人々の細やかな表情も読み取ることができる. 損壊していた12階建ての浅草・凌雲閣が後日爆破処理されるシーンも含む. Although there are many duplicated films of the Great Kanto Earthquake, this film is outstandingly clear and distinct. On the label of the can, "Osaka Mainichi Newspaper" is printed and stamped. The title frame contains a text "To Kyoto Imperial University, Osaka Mainichi Newspaper," which indicates that the film was offered directly by the creator, Osaka Mainichi Newspaper. It shows a situation of the center of Tokyo just after the earthquake. It is vividly recorded that houses were in smoke and fire, people thronged to an open square, people carried household goods out and escaped, and even a shower of sparks fell over them. Letters on signboards and people's expressions can be seen in detail. It also contains the scene of the blasting operation of Asakusa Ryouunkaku, a 12-story tower which was damaged by the earthquake.
